Shared Leadership: Developing a Community of Enaged and Empowered Parents

A Professional Development Workshop for Teachers and Principals

"It takes a village to raise a child".

This old adage still holds true today. Now, more than ever, shared leadership demands a supportive community not only
made up of teachers and administrators, but of parents as well.

Research has clearly demonstrated the long-term benefits of parent involvement, particularly as it relates to student outcomes.

In this session, participants will become part of insightful conversations that highlight the characteristics and benefits of a
community of empowered and engaged parents. Each participant's potential for cultivating a powerful community of parents
will be maximized as they consider Next Stage Strategies and the Take-Home Toolkit.

                                                                                 Workshop Participants Will:

- Identify the fundamental principles of shared leadership and key ways in which parents can be engaged and empowered

- Discover ways to navigate the roadblocks associated with shared leadership

- Gain insight into practical and effective strategies to engage and empower parents to improve student outcomes

- Establish the ways in which shared leadership with parents can improve student achievement and school culture

-Develop Next Stage Strategies to develop a community of engaged and empowered parents in their school
